This week, an exceptional meeting took place at Cinecreatis Bordeaux: that of renowned French director Éric Lartigau with CC1 and CC2 students, in the company of Delphine Gleize, director and trainer at the school. The aim of the session was to give the students the opportunity to talk to a great name in French cinema, to hear about his career and to benefit from his valuable advice.

A warm welcome and a strong first impression

Éric Lartigau was enthusiastically welcomed to the Cinecreatis studio by around sixty students, all eager to learn more about his career and his profession. As soon as he arrived, Éric expressed his delight at being here, praising the school and its facilities: “You’re darn lucky to be at this school”. It was a very natural and authentic first contact, in keeping with his image.

A passionate career and fascinating anecdotes

Lartigau then took time to share his background with the students. Passionate about art from an early age, his story, which can be found in the details of his biography here, testifies to his deep love of cinema and creation.

He recounted his memorable encounters with talented actors such as Jamel Debbouze, Éric & Ramzy, Alain Chabat, Louane, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Catherine Deneuve. He also recalled his invitation to the prestigious Cannes Film Festival by Thierry Frémaux, director of the event, and his dinner with legends such as Pedro Almodóvar, George Miller and Quentin Tarantino. These dreamlike moments captivated the students, who followed each anecdote attentively, often smiling in amazement.

While the director shared his memories, his dog walked quietly among the students, adding a touch of complicity and conviviality to this already warm meeting.

Inspiring advice for future filmmakers

Far from contenting himself with telling anecdotes, Éric Lartigau took the time to give the students some sound advice. In particular, he suggested that they “be curious, go to museums, look at paintings”, a call to develop a broad artistic sensibility and a thirst for discovery. He also stressed the importance of humility, self-sacrifice and a relationship with others, essential qualities in the face of the difficulties encountered in the film industry.

The students were given the opportunity to ask questions, and there was a rich exchange of ideas, reflections and dreams. This open discussion strengthened the bond between the director and the students, who appreciated every moment spent listening to one of their own.
