Silène Barralon
Animation, a revelation
His years at CinéCréatis
In 2015, as she began her second year of studies at CinéCréatis, Silène realised that she wanted to work in the world of animation. She didn’t give up, and focused her career plan in that direction. For her end-of-studies work placement, she joined JVEB, a studio in Nantes, where she honed her skills in stop-motion and 2D animation, with a view to approaching other studios once she had her degree.
This wasn’t necessary, however, as she was taken on at JVEB as a stop-motion editor/animator. This first experience gave her a foot in the door, and enabled her to develop her network. A few months later, she joined La Chouette Compagnie, a Paris-based studio specialising in 2D series, as an assistant editor. She went on to work on a string of projects, taking on the series “Le Monde Selon Kev” and providing support on “Droners”, “Goal Force” and “Imago”.
“We must never give up!
A short while ago, she responded to an offer from Unit Image, which was looking for an assistant editor for a short film for Netflix. It was the big project she’d been waiting for! After several weeks of waiting, she was finally chosen for the job: “In the past, I had already responded to similar offers, notably for Illumination Mac Guff on ‘Les Minions 2’, and Fortiche Prod for a series with Riot Games inspired by ‘League of Legend’, but in both cases the studios felt that I didn’t have enough experience. It just goes to show that you should never give up!
So it was with great motivation and enthusiasm that Silène joined Unit Image. Her ambition is to continue her development and perhaps realise her dream of working on a feature film at Disney Studios in Los Angeles.
Any advice for younger children?
“Believe in your dreams and ambitions! If you feel deep down that you want to do something, that it matters to you, move in that direction without looking back, without letting negative opinions slow you down, and instead use them to propel you forward!”. Let’s hear it!
