Students in the preparatory year at the Lyon campus had the chance to take part in an exceptional screening of the film ANSELM – THE NOISE OF TIME. The film is a unique cinematic experience, immersing viewers in the fascinating world of artist Anselm Kiefer. The documentary sheds light on his work, revealing his life’s journey, his inspirations, his creative process, and his fascination with myth and history. The film’s director, Wim Wenders, offers us a total immersion in Kiefer’s world, blurring the boundaries between film and painting.
In this documentary, past and present intertwine to give us a complete vision of Kiefer’s work. We discover how his childhood in West Germany influenced his artistic work, as well as his fascination with the myths and history of his country.
The screening was followed by a lively discussion between the students and director Win Wenders, who shared their impressions and thoughts on the film. This unique experience enabled the students to develop their critical faculties and intellectual curiosity, as well as providing them with an enriching moment of cultural entertainment.
Students from Lyon had the opportunity to attend this special event at the Pathé Grand Lyon. This cinema is one of the most popular in the city, offering a quality cinematic experience to all who visit.
Meeting with a cinema legend
The students’ participation in this event was an enriching experience. They had the opportunity to meet a film legend in the person of Wim Wenders. The German film director has had a prolific and influential career in the history of cinema. Regarded as a genius of the seventh art, he has distinguished himself by his ability to explore the complexity of human relationships and the human condition through his films. His best-known works include Paris, Texas, Wings of Desire and Buena Vista Social Club.
Born in Düsseldorf in 1945, Wim Wenders began his film career in the late 1960s as a film critic before making his first film, Summer in the City, in 1970.
He quickly made a name for himself for his ability to use the language of film to explore the deepest themes of human existence. His distinctive visual style, often using wide shots and fluid camera movements, has become a trademark of his films.
Over the years, Wim Wenders has received numerous awards and distinctions for his work, including the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival for Paris, Texas and the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival for Wings of Desire. His influence on contemporary cinema is considerable, and his films continue to inspire filmmakers the world over. He is also a fervent advocate of European cinema, and served as President of the European Film Academy from 1996 to 2000.
