A morning with director Marc Caro

On 5 January, 1st and 2nd year students at CinéCréatis Montpellier were lucky enough to attend a talk by Marc Caro.

Between watching extracts from his films and recounting various anecdotes, Marc Caro gave the students a great lesson in cinema.

Who is Marc Caro?

Marc Caro is the avant-garde. He started out in the 70s with Métal Hurlant, Fluide Glacial, Charlie Mensuel and l’Echo des Savanes. It’s a graphic universe first and foremost. He has a strong taste for machines and industrial music (he formed a group in the 80s called “Parazite”).

It was his meeting with Jean-Pierre Jeunet in 1974 at the Annecy International Animation Festival that led him to the camera. Together they explored and created new worlds, co-directing several short films, feature films and music videos (Indochine, Jean-Michel Jarre, Laurent Garnier). Their best-known joint projects are “Delicatessen” and “La cité des enfants perdus”.

In 2008, Marc Caro directed his first solo feature film , “Dante 01“, starring Lambert Wilson.

Marco Caro has always drawn, explored, tinkered, cut, glued and unsticked. It is this love of all forms of art that he has tried to pass on to our students. An unfailing curiosity and a visceral need to create are the two pieces of advice we can take away from his work at CinéCréatis.
