Graduating in 2021, Julia is now a television cameraman.
Her pride and joy? Bringing images to life…
You graduated last year in Lyon! What specialisation did you choose and why?
During my course at CinéCréatis, I chose to specialise in Image. I’ve always been a ‘hands-on’ person, so I wanted to handle cameras and master the machinery. In my opinion, the Image section is the most artistic. It’s where the image is born.
What project particularly stood out for you during your 3 years of training?
The school project I’ll always remember is the “professional dossier”. It was the one where we had the most freedom and enough knowledge to make a quality film. It’s also the one where we helped each other the most and where we put in months of intense work that we can be proud of.
What job do you do today and what are your responsibilities?
I’m currently a camera operator (particularly for television) at one of the two companies where I did my work placements: TvOnly. They produce programmes for “Paris première” and recently “C8”.
I mainly work on reports. So my role is to think about the setting, the technique and the lighting.
Did your first steps in the professional world correspond to your expectations?
For the moment, yes! I’ve turned more towards reportage, where the way of working is different from fiction (there’s more spontaneity) and I really like that. My long-term goal is to be able to try my hand at everything.
The shoots I’ve done have all been more impressive than the others. They’ve already taken me all over France (and once to Italy!). These are special working conditions because you’re always on the move, but that’s also what makes you live the moment to the full.
If you had to sum up what you remember from your 3 years at CinéCréatis and what you find most useful today :
They were three years that I never saw go by. I was finally doing the studies I’d been waiting for and I wasn’t disappointed. I met the right people and today we’re continuing to progress together.
Finally, what is most useful to me today is, of course, the technical knowledge that I have learnt.
A few words for current and future CinéCréatis students?
I’d say that you have to love what you do and not put pressure on yourself to succeed!
