Recreating the rhythm: meticulous editing

When it came to editing the scene, the initial intention was to rediscover the precision of the rhythm established by Kubrick. But rather than mechanically imitate each cut, Yoni sought to understand the internal logic of the montage.

He analysed the scene frame by frame, studying the relationship between looks, the importance of the off-screen and the articulation of moments of tension. Each cut was designed to maintain the dramatic build-up while preserving narrative fluidity.

Colour was another key aspect of the project. The aim was to recapture the cold, clinical and slightly desaturated aesthetic of the original film. Several colour-grading versions were tested to achieve the desired effect.

Generic motion design: a modern tribute to Kubrick

Yoni also created motion design credits, entirely using After Effects. The work took more than three months to complete, with the aim of creating credits that were inspired by the style of the film while remaining modern. To give the project a clear direction, the student produced a complete moodboard, scene by scene. Each shot was represented in order to visualise the structure, the evolution of the shapes, the typographic appearances and the visual breaks. This storyboard served as a guide throughout the process, helping to organise the ideas and build a coherent theme.

Transitions in the service of the atmosphere

Yoni paid particular attention to the transitions, which he wanted to be fluid, organic and sometimes almost invisible. They play an essential role in the continuity of the credits: they keep the energy flowing and maintain a state of visual hypnosis close to the atmosphere of the film.

Some of the transitions are inspired by the camera movements of horror films, while others take their cue from the graphic codes of the 80s, while retaining a contemporary approach to motion design.

Between homage and personal vision

The student sought to create an atmosphere that oscillated between mystery, tension and imbalance, reinterpreting the spirit of the film without copying it. In this way, the credits establish a bridge between Kubrick’s work and his personal vision, a field of experimentation in which he was able to assert his graphic sensibility.
