This year – COVID-19 obliges – the festival will take place online and will respect the official calendar (from 20 to 30 August).
About the festival
The São Paulo International Short Film Festival is one of the world’s biggest events dedicated to short films. Held in the city of São Paulo since 1990, it has become a landmark in the city’s cultural calendar for its broad and diverse programme, which is screened free of charge in several of the city’s theatres and cultural centres.
The main focus is on International, Latin American and Brazilian film programmes. A series of special programmes is created each year, based on the films shown at the Festival and suggestions made by curators who visit the most important festivals in Brazil and around the world.
According to its organisers, this edition will be very special given the pandemic situation, but for the first time the festival will reach more people, beyond the boundaries of Sao Paulo, spreading throughout Brazil in a unique virtual theatre.
To adapt to this new reality, the Festival has rethought its entire programme, and this year it will present a smaller, more robust selection.
